Description

1807 'Bearded Goddess' Half Dollar, Fine 12
O-111b, Attractively Toned

1807 50C Capped Bust, Bearded Goddess, O-111b, High R.4, Fine 12 PCGS. One of the most famous die cracks in the Bust half series also claims one of the great monikers in all of numismatics -- the Bearded Goddess. This smooth and well-defined Fine 12 example is ideal for the grade, with a smooth and attractive obverse that shows off the namesake chin-to-chest "beard" to full advantage. Less obviously, the die crack extends to Liberty's eye and cap, confirming the desirable late die state (Overton-111b). Old-silver toning frames light-gray devices for a pleasing circulation cameo effect. The reverse is similarly toned, with minor rim bumps including one above S and O of STATES OF. Virtually no other marks exist.
