Description

1834 N-2 Cent, MS64 Red and Brown
Condition Census

1834 1C Small 8, Large Stars, Medium Letters, N-2, R.1, MS64 Red and Brown PCGS. CAC. Ex: Naftzger-Ahumada. Noyes Die State B/B. Both dies are cracked as always. We agree with the MS63 grade assigned by Del Bland, Bob Grellman, and Bill Noyes. Bland places this coin in a second-place tie in his Condition Census and Noyes has it tied for the fourth finest. Regardless, it is an amazing survivor from the N-2 dies that exhibits substantial mint red and accompanying steel-blue toning. The grade would be a point or two higher if not for trivial obverse marks in the left field and on Liberty's jaw. Our EAC grade MS63. PCGS Small 8 Population: 6 in 64 Red and Brown, 3 finer. PCGS N-3 Population: 3 in 64 Red and Brown, 0 finer (11/21).
Ex: James G. Macallister; Ruth Green; Charles Green (9/12/1949); R.E. Naftzger, Jr. (Goldberg Auctions, 2/2009), lot 296; Manuel Ahumada Collection (Goldberg Auctions, 6/2017), lot 135.
