Description

1770 Death of Rev. Whitefield, XF-AU
Betts-Unlisted, White Metal

Betts-Unlisted. 1770 Death of Rev. Whitefield. White Metal. XF-AU. 32.0 mm, 12.8 gm. Obverse signed by C.W.F. An almost full-facing bust of Whitefield, dressed in fancy clerical robes, appears on the obverse of this piece unlisted in Betts. The obverse legend reads, THE REV. GEO. WHITEFIELD A.M. B16d1714 / D30S1770. Text covers the entire reverse and reads, THE FUNERAL SERMON PREACHD BY THE REV. JOHN WESTLY, A.M. FROM NUMB. C23.V10. LET ME DIE THE DEATH OF THE RIGHTEOUS AND LET MY LAST END BE LIKE HIS. A well-preserved piece, this sharply struck medal retains attractive color and luster. Aside from a few marks on the tip of the nose, the few abrasions present are not worthy of individual mention.
