Description

1807 BD-1 Quarter Eagle, MS61
Early Die State

1807 $2 1/2 BD-1, R.3, MS61 NGC. Bass-Dannreuther Die State a/b, the early die state with no cracks through ERTY. The reverse is a dual-denomination die that was used for quarter eagle in 1805, 1806, and 1807, and for dimes in 1807. The dimes and quarter eagles from 1798 to 1807 were the only coins that shared reverse dies due to the similar diameter of the two denominations. This nicely detailed early quarter eagle features satin luster on its pleasing light yellow surfaces with trivial marks of no consequence. The 1807 is an ideal candidate to represent the design in an advanced type collection as the most plentiful early quarter eagle minted from 1796 to 1807. Census: 20 in 61, 19 finer (8/23).
