Description
1826/6 BD-1 Quarter Eagle, AU Details
Large Diameter Capped Head Left Key
1826/6 $2 1/2 BD-1, High R.5 -- Holed/Plug -- PCGS Genuine. AU
Details. Die State Bass-Dannreuther a/a. Only a single die
marriage struck 1826-dated quarter eagles. The 1826/6 BD-1 is rare,
with only 30 to 35 survivors according to Dannreuther. The Guide
Book mintage is only 760 pieces, by far the lowest among the 11
dates in the Capped Head Left series. Among the five Large Diameter
dates, the 1826/6 is the rarest. The present straw-gold
representative displays only slight wear. A plug is evident at star
13 relative to the obverse, and at the right wingtip relative to
the reverse. Star 13 and that wingtip are re-engraved. The fields
are moderately bright, but no abrasions are relevant.
