Description

Charles IV gold 8 Escudos 1791 PTS-PR AU55 NGC, Potosi mint, KM77, Onza-1084, AU53 NGC. Lightly toned with strong underlying luster, attractive surface quality and only slight high-point wear defining the grade. Certainly among the finer extant of this rare one-year type featuring the laureate proper bust of Charles IV, a charming coin with a stupendous pedigree and very desirable as such.

Ex. Eliasberg collection (ANR 4/2005, lot 1029) and the plate coin in Wayte Raymond's 1936 pioneering work The Gold Coins of South America.
