Description

Rare Date "Shield" Sovereign in Mint State Condition

Victoria gold "Shield" Sovereign 1874 MS62 NGC, KM752, S-3853B, Marsh-58 (R4). Die #32. A conditionally superior example of this scarce and highly contested "Shield" Sovereign-- a significantly rarer issue than its counterpart of the same date that bears the St. George reverse design. The offering is currently tied for the "Top Pop" example in NGC's census, a testimony to the difficult of locating higher-end examples of the date, which is, by far, the scarcest of its type, produced from 1870 to 1874. Indeed, this is the finest circulation (non-Proof) representative that we have encountered to date, and its brightly shimmering golden luster and sharp design motifs only serve to immediately confirm NGC's honorable grade designation in hand.
