Description

1854 Seated Liberty Dollar, AU55
Sharply Detailed and Lightly Worn

1854 $1 AU55 PCGS. OC-1, High R.3. Dick Osburn and Brian Cushing explain in their online reference: "This is a key date in the Liberty Seated Dollar series. Most would consider 1854 dollars as rare, though by Liberty Seated Dollar standards they're only scarce. Although the date is overshadowed by its near neighbors, the 1851 and 1852, it would be a key in almost any other series." They estimate 300 circulation strikes survive from a low mintage of 33,140 coins. A dusky overlay of antique-gold patina covers reflective, strongly detailed surfaces. A few stray contact marks are noted. Population: 13 in 55, 40 finer (10/17).(Registry values: N2998)
