George II gold Proof "Restoration" 100 Drachmai 1935-Dated
(1940) PR66 Ultra Cameo NGC, Heaton mint, KM76, Gardiakos-201,
Divo-11, Karamitsos-182. Mintage: 140. A highly coveted rarity from
the modern Greek series, struck in celebration of the 5th
anniversary of the monarchy's restoration on November 25, 1935.
Regardless of composition, this type is always fiercely contested,
but especially so when encountered in gold. Glasslike surfaces
decorate the offering at hand, lending to the deep reflectivity one
expects from an "Ultra Cameo" assignment. A paucity of distracting
marks are evident, even under magnification, allowing for the
single highest conditional designation to be bestowed upon this
piece, rendering it a top-tier specimen for the Greek collector.
