Description

1875-S/CC Trade Dollar, MS64
A Conditionally Rare, Important Variety

1875-S/CC T$1 FS-501 MS64 PCGS. EX: Linda Collection. Large S, Type One Reverse. The late die state, showing a crack plotting in irregular path through the top of AMERICA; lesser peripheral cracks appear elsewhere. The left C in the mintmark is mostly absent, but the right C is weakly visible in the field next to the primary S mintmark. The S/CC major variety is rare in Mint State, particularly at the MS64 level where PCGS lists only eight coins; a single Gem is finer at that service (10/17). This piece displays frosty golden-toned luster with warm russet accents at the borders. A single ebony spot in the central obverse serves as a pedigree marker. Slight strike weakness occurs on Liberty's head and foot, and on the eagle's right (facing) talons.
