Victoria gold "Shield" Sovereign 1872/1-M XF45 NGC, Melbourne mint, KM6, S-3854. A scarcer overdate variety, which commands a significant premium over the regular 1872-dated type. While the "1" is somewhat challenging to pinpoint visually in this case, a consequence of the circulation the piece has undergone, the width and irregularity of the "2" in the date nonetheless give this away as a clear overdate example with antique gold surfaces and blushes of luster.
