1800 $1 12 Arrows, B-17, BB-196, R.1, MS62 PCGS. Ex: Cardinal-Hesselgesser. Bowers Die State IV. The 1800 B-17, BB-196 variety is one of several popular Guide Book varieties offered by the date, including the Dotted Date, AMERICAI, Wide Date Low 8, 10 Arrows, and 12 Arrows varieties. The BB-196 is the only true 12 Arrows variety is plentiful in lower grades, but as noted in the Bowers Encyclopedia, "AU specimens are in the rare category, and Mint State coins are exceedingly rare." This MS62 example is the late die state, with a prominent "collar" die clash and several obverse die cracks. The coin is resplendently toned, displaying iridescent colors that decorate the margins and linger beneath smooth, lilac-gray patina overspreading both the obverse and the reverse. The stars are sharp and bold definition exists throughout the raised devices on both sides. This is the PCGS CoinFacts plate coin for the 12 Arrows variety.
