1898-O Morgan Dollar
MS67 Deep Mirror Prooflike
First in This Grade at Auction in 20 Years
CAC Approved, Condition Census

1898-O $1 MS67 Deep Mirror Prooflike PCGS. CAC. The Condition Census of Deep Mirror Prooflike 1898-O Morgan dollars consists of a handful of Superb Gems reported by PCGS and NGC. PCGS lists four coins in MS67 Deep Mirror Prooflike, with a lone MS68 coin finer in the category; NGC reports three MS67s, one of which is Plus designated, with none finer (12/25). However, these top-tier coins rarely appear at auction. The PCGS examples are virtually nonexistent on the public scene, in fact. The last MS67 Deep Mirror PCGS coin to appear at auction was in 2006. And the lone MS68 coin in the Deep Mirror category last changed hands a decade ago in 2015. Registry Set collectors frustrated with the drought for this issue should not let the present coin pass by.

Essentially brilliant surfaces yield hints of light champagne color that delicately warm the thickly frosted devices. The fields, by contrast, are deeply mirrored, providing a true white-on-black effect on both sides equally. The strike leaves nothing to be desired, and the prime focal areas are pristine. In addition to being the first MS67 Deep Mirror Prooflike PCGS coin to appear at auction in 20 years, this piece is also one of only two for the grade with CAC endorsement. We can, without reservation, declare this coin to be one of the finest known for the issue. PCGS Population: 4 in 67, 1 finer (11/25).(Registry values: P1, N4719)
