Description

1939-D Dime, MS69 Full Bands
Tied for the Finest Mercury Dime Known

1939-D 10C MS69 Full Bands PCGS. Without exception, every known Mercury dime at the MS69 Full Bands grade level resides in this single 1939-D issue, making this date singularly important among type collectors who must simply have only the best. PCGS lists 21 pieces in this grade and NGC five (12/15). This representative showcases vivid amber-red, gold, and olive-green toning over the upper and lower obverse with a band of silver brilliance stretching across the center from 9 to 3 o'clock: a distinctive toning pattern that we have seen on several other high-end examples of this date -- could they all be from the same source? The reverse shows similar peripheral hues and a frosty, brilliant center. The strike is sharp, and the surfaces are virtually flawless to the human eye.(Registry values: N1793)
