Description

1821 25C B-3, R.2, AU53 PCGS. Tompkins Die State 3/1. The die lines formerly between stars 2 and 3 have been lapped away, as made. The multicolor golden-brown and apple-green peripheral toning is characteristic of silver coins from the Laurence H. Gardner Collection, which was apparently housed for many years in Wayte Raymond albums. This splendidly detailed example is impressively void of marks, and exhibits exceptional eye appeal for its numerical grade.
Ex: Laurence H. Gardner; Buffalo and Erie County Historical Society (Stack's, 3/2005), lot 338; Purchased from KMG, 3/2005, for $2,375; Denis W. Loring Capped Bust Quarter Collection; to the present consignor.
