Description

1850 Seated Dollar, Multicolor MS61
Low-Mintage Rarity, CAC Approval

1850 $1 MS61 NGC. CAC. A good light reveals wonderful multicolor iridescence --chiefly pale rose, gold, and ice-blue with grayish areas remaining -- on this Mint State 1850 Seated dollar, a seldom-seen conditional rarity, given the issue's minuscule mintage of only 7,500 pieces for circulation. The illustrious nature of the 1850 Seated dollar is overshadowed by the series' more-famous 1851 and 1852 issues, but all three are low-mintage due to the rising prices of silver in the early 1850s, which in any case defeated the purpose of striking silver dollars for circulation. A few hair-thin marks and minor contact are consistent with the grade, but this coin offers eye appeal in spades. Census: 12 in 61, 19 finer (5/15). This is the sole example in this grade with the CAC green approval.(Registry values: N2998)
