1831 BD-1 Quarter Eagle, MS64
Elusive Type

1831 $2 1/2 BD-1, R.4, MS64 PCGS. The Capped Bust quarter eagles were issued in two distinct sizes, larger diameter from 1821 to 1827, and smaller diameter from 1829 to 1834. A second reverse die was introduced in 1830 and remained in production through the end of the type in 1834. Just 25,000 coins were struck during the six years that the coin type was produced. This Choice Mint State example is a well-preserved, lustrous yellow-gold example with satiny fields and frosty devices. Population: 13 in 64, 6 finer (11/25).
