Description

Astounding Near-Gem Ivan Rouble

Ivan VI Rouble 1741-CПБ MS64 NGC, St. Petersburg mint, KM207.2, Bit-19 (R1). "Ivan III". A single-year type produced at both the Moscow and St. Petersburg mints, treasured among Russian numismatists in terms of both absolute and conditional rarity. The present St. Petersburg specimen showcases a level of detail and preservation rarely seen on extant survivors, having been awarded with a near-Gem designation from NGC that has only been bested by two examples in the certification census. The refined, lightly mottled, antique silver patina boosts the gravitas of this majestic piece while still yielding the backlit-brilliance of a coin still imbued with much of its original glory. Examples of such quality are incredibly hard to come by, as this piece significantly outpaces the next highest graded Ivan VI Rouble to cross our auction blocks, an MS61 sold back in 2017. A special opportunity to acquire what is no doubt one of the finest Ivan VI Roubles still in existence.
