British India. Victoria gold Proof Restrike 10 Rupees 1879-(c) PR65 NGC, Calcutta mint, KM495, Prid-35, S&W-6.21. Reeded edge. Sharply flashy and engaging, this later restrike is one of only two dates for the denomination with the VICTORIA EMPRESS legends, and as such, proves quite difficult for most collectors to acquire. A rather too inconsequential to mention amount of faint wisps and minute haziness of the reflective fields appear to be limiting the technical grade from reaching even loftier levels. Currently, this piece is the second finest in the NCG population, bested only by the near-unfathomable PR68? Ultra Cameo example which we had the pleasure of handling in August 2016, when it sold for $22,325.Metal: Gold
