Umayyad. temp. Yazid II (AH 101-105 / AD 720-724) gold Dinar AH 102 (720/721) MS62 NGC, al-Andalus mint, A-134B (RRR), Bernardi-44Aa (R). 4.35gm. A rare Western issue struck during the Arab conquest of the Andalusia. This two year mint-type is one of the first emissions to bear only Islamic inscriptions, the result of a monetary reform that pushed out the hybrid Latin/Islamic transitional issues first produced in AH 98. Apart from some doubling on the reverse legends, the devices present in their fullest form, benefitting from the mint bloom that still twinkles in the fields. One of only three graded at NGC, set to demand active bidding from specialized collectors.
