1836 Gold Dollar in Gold
Judd-67, PR65
Historic Early Pattern

1836 PG$1 Gold Dollar, Judd-67, Pollock-70, R.5, PR65 NGC. Ex: The Peh Family Collection. The obverse depicts a Liberty cap surrounded by glory rays. The reverse features a circular palm branch with 1D. in the center surrounded by UNITED STATES OF AMERICA at the margins and the date below. Christian Gobrecht is credited with both designs. Struck in gold with a plain edge. Blushes of milky patina are limited to the reverse. Judd-67 has considerable historical importance, as it is the first Federal gold pattern as well as the first gold dollar prototype. This crisply struck Gem displays obverse cameo contrast on the obverse. The cap and rays are luminous, and the obverse field is nicely mirrored. The reverse is satiny. Both sides are free from detractions.
Ex: FUN Signature (Heritage, 1/2006), lot 3699.
