Stunning Mint State Crown of Charles I
Ex. Pittman Collection

Charles I silver Crown ND (1631-1632) MS62 NGC, KM167, D-3763, S-2852. Nicholas Briot's coinage, first milled issue. Mintmark flower and "B." Obv. Charles I, crowned and armored, on horseback left holding sword. Rev. Crowned oval arms dividing crowned C-R. Superbly struck for the issue, with reflective surfaces and noticeable luster beneath the toning. The obverse exhibits even lead-gray color, while the reverse shows a lighter gray with touches of silvery luster. No significant handling marks are noted and the obverse displays minor flan flaws, as struck. Exceedingly rare, with an impeccable pedigree, and, by far, the finest example of this type we have seen.
Ex. John J. Pittman Collection sold by David Akers in August 1999, where it realized $16,100, the Pittman original auction tag is included.
Ex. Baldwin, Markoff, and M&M New York sale XVII, January 9, 2008, for a hammer price of $17,000.
