Description

William III Crown 1695 MS65 NGC, KM486, S-3470, ESC-990. SEPTIMO edge. The single finest graded example of this type seen by either NGC or PCGS. Indeed, when looking at the census figures for all William III crowns of all dates, this is tied with just one other MS65, and with just two higher (and the two higher graded ones, it should be noted, are both 1695-OCTAVO examples, which is the most common of all William III crowns). With that in mind, it becomes difficult to come up with an estimate for this coin; the closest comparable result for another high grade 1695-SEPTIMO crown would be an NGC MS64 which sold in September 2013 for a hammer price of $7,750. The eye appeal of this particular piece, however, should propel it further than the just one higher grade point should. There is fantastic blue toning throughout, and is particularly bold on the reverse. For the collector of British coins who wants the very best, the proverbial buck stops here.
