1879 $1 Goloid Metric Dollar, Judd-1628, Pollock-1824, Low R.7,
PR66 Red NGC. William Barber's design for the Goloid Metric
dollar with a large head of Liberty facing left and LIBERTY on a
wide ribbon around her head. The reverse is laid out with the
proposed composition of the coin in the center, surrounded by a
circle of 38 stars. Struck in copper with a reeded edge. The Saul
Teichman photo file lists 10 specimens. Both sides present a bright
copper-red appearance with mauve accents at the center of the
obverse. A slender lintmark near UNUM provides an identifier.
Census: 1 in 66 Red, 0 finer (8/25).Ex: FUN Signature (Heritage, 1/2006), lot 3715.
