Description

1860-D Gold Dollar, AU55
Low-Mintage Branch Mint Issue

1860-D G$1 AU55 PCGS. CAC. Variety 12-P. From a minuscule mintage of 1,566 pieces, the 1860-D gold dollar is a challenging issue in the Dahlonega Mint series. This impressive Choice AU example shows just a trace of light wear on the design elements, but the devices show the typical weak strike for this issue. Many letters in the obverse legend are softly rendered, with U in UNITED just an indistinct blob. Some clash marks show on the reverse, but the pleasing orange-gold surfaces are lightly abraded and retain much of their original mint luster. Population: 12 in 55, 25 finer. CAC: 2 in 55, 7 finer (10/19).(Registry values: N4719)
