Description

1872-CC Half Eagle, AU58
Choice and Unusually High Grade

1872-CC $5 AU58 PCGS. CAC. Winter 1-B. Rich yellow-gold surfaces contain minimal contact marks and significant luster. The strike omits minimal hair detail on the obverse, and the shield on the reverse is slightly weaker. The 1872-CC is the third issue from this storied Mint and has the fourth highest mintage from this facility of the decade at 16,980 half eagles. This issue, like its counterparts from the surrounding years, circulated very heavily in the old American west, and as a result, most examples are well-worn today. Furthermore, poor quality control led to a notable number with planchet flaws. While this feature is excellent for error coin collectors, it complicates the hunt for the grade-conscious collector. The present offering answers those calls, combining high grade, premium quality, and a perfect planchet for the collector who demands the best. PCGS Population: 4 in 58, 0 finer (11/25).
