Description

1866 Three Cent Silver, Brilliant MS65
Exceptional Contrast on Each Side

1866 3CS MS65 NGC. CAC. The low mintage of only 22,000 circulation strikes undoubtedly accounts for the notably deep reflectivity in the fields -- the initial die polish just never had a chance to wear off, at least not when this coin was struck. The devices are frosted as well, giving this business strike an unusual Ultra Cameo appearance. The untoned surfaces are certainly an aid in recognition of this field-device contrast. Census: 10 in 65, 15 finer (7/13).
