Description

1872 Five Dollar Liberty, AU55
Seldom Available in Any Grade

1872 $5 AU55 NGC. The 1872 half eagle boasts a scant mintage of only 1,660 pieces, rendering it rare in all grades. PCGS estimates the survivorship at only 50 to 65 pieces. This Choice AU example displays partial luster and honey-gold patina, with moderate surface chatter that accompanies the grade. Slight strike weakness appears on the eagle's neck and the hair curls around Liberty's face. Eye appeal is pleasing for the grade. NGC Census: 5 in 55, 12 finer (10/25).(Registry values: P3)
