Description

Perhaps Only the Second Known Example

Othon gold Presentation Medal ND (1832-1862) MS62 NGC, Wittelsbach-Unl. 37.5mm. 27.29gm. Plain edge. By Konrad Lange. ΟΘΩΝ ΒΑΣIΛΕΥΣ ΤΗΣ ΕΛΛΑΔΟΣ, bare bust of Othon right / TOI TAIΣ ΜΟΥΣAIΣ KEXAPIΣΜΕ ΝΟΙΣ in five lines within laurel wreath. Reportedly only the second known example of this presentation medal, which appears to be otherwise unpublished. Bearing a strikingly high relief to the design juxtaposed with watery fields displaying only a minor scattering of wisps, it is sure to garner ample attention from seasoned collectors of the Greek series.
