Description

1920-S Quarter, Highly Lustrous MS66
Conditionally Rare So Fine

1920-S 25C MS66 PCGS. Even though more than 6.3 million pieces were struck of the 1920-S, it is a scarce and underrated coin in the series, particularly in Premium Gem or better condition. This is one of the finer non-Full Head examples we have seen recently, and we have not handled a finer non-Full Head piece in nearly a decade. The coin displays the familiar thick mint frost seen on S-mint quarters and is notably devoid of distracting abrasions. Light rose and lilac toning overlies each side but does not impede the swirling luster. Liberty's head lacks the leaf details required for the Full Head designation, elsewhere the strike exceeds expectations for the grade. Well-defined shield lines and nearly complete rivets are noteworthy, as is the bold date definition. Clash marks in the recesses around Liberty's legs are also characteristic of the issue. Population: 27 in 66 (3 in 66+), 5 finer (8/25).
