Description

1880-CC Ten Dollar Liberty, AU58
Challenging in High Grade With CAC

1880-CC $10 AU58 NGC. CAC. Three die varieties are known despite a low mintage of 11,190 pieces, suggesting a few small runs of ten dollar gold pieces rather than a brief single mintage. Although it is less rare than the Carson City ten dollar issues from the 1870s, the 1880-CC is nonetheless challenging relative to CC-mint type issues such as the 1891-CC. Attractive About Uncirculated examples remain in demand from Old West gold collectors. The present crisply struck butter-gold coin displays scattered minute field strike-throughs (as made) but abrasions are otherwise of little consequence. The eye appeal is excellent. NGC Census: 41 in 58 (2 in 58+), 16 finer. CAC: 14 in 58, 2 finer (3/25).(Registry values: N1793)
