Description

1893-CC Double Eagle, MS62+
High-End CAC Example

1893-CC $20 MS62+ PCGS. CAC. Winter 2-A. The final double eagle struck at the Carson City Mint had a mintage of only 18,402 pieces, although in recent decades coins originally shipped abroad for trade have been repatriated, making the issue collectible in Mint State. Still, examples grading finer than the current coin are rare, and this stands apart from most of its peers with the PCGS Plus designation and CAC green label. We have seen Plus-graded CAC coins in this grade on only five prior occasions.

This piece displays a bold strike and vibrant orange-gold and peach luster. Scattered abrasions define the grade but are minor, and eye appeal is excellent for the issue. CAC: 25 in 62, 3 finer (11/25).(Registry values: N2998)

Coin Index Numbers: (NGC ID# 26C9, PCGS# 9023, Greysheet# 9953)

Weight: 33.44 grams

Metal: 90% Gold, 10% Copper
