1791 Washington Large Eagle Cent
MS65 Red and Brown, Baker-15

1791 CENT Washington Large Eagle Cent MS65 Red and Brown NGC. Baker-15, W-10610, Musante GW-15, R.2. The well-made Washington Large Eagle cent was undoubtedly the prototype for the rare 1792 Peter Getz patterns. The issue was familiar to Philadelphia merchants, due to a shipment of 2,500 Large Eagle cents from Birmingham, England, to Thomas Ketland & Sons of Philadelphia, in an attempt to secure a Birmingham contract to strike Federal coinage. When those plans fell through, the coppers were placed into local circulation. The present sharply struck Gem offers satiny and unabraded surfaces. Design recesses retain the initial sun-gold color, although the high points and open fields have mellowed to steel-gray. Listed on page 83 of the 2018 Guide Book. Census: 3 in 65 (1 in 65 ) Red and Brown, 1 finer (5/17).

Coin Index Numbers: (NGC ID# 2B6Z, PCGS# 703, Greysheet# 254)
