Description

1915 Double Eagle, MS65
Beautiful Orange-Gold Surfaces; Rare in Gem

1915 $20 MS65 PCGS. Virtually pristine orange-gold surfaces radiate vibrant mint luster. These tremendously eye-appealing surfaces also contain minimal abrasions and blanket design elements that exhibit razor-sharp definition.

Double eagle production at the Philadelphia Mint in 1915 was quite small at just 152,000 examples, making the issue scarce today, rare at the Gem level, and a conditional rarity in higher grades. Unlike many coins in the series, a significant number of 1915 twenties were used in domestic circulation, leading to an unusual number of non-Mint State survivors. Other coins were used in overseas trade, swelling the number of Mint State examples. However, bagmarks acquired in transport limit these survivors to the lower end of the Mint State range. Population: 62 in 65 (7 in 65+), 3 finer (12/24).
