Description

1878-CC Double Eagle, XF40
Difficult Carson City Issue

1878-CC $20 XF40 PCGS. Variety 1-A. All Carson City double eagles are scarce relative to their San Francisco counterparts, but the 1878-CC is much more elusive than its 1874-CC, 1875-CC, and 1876-CC predecessors. This example has ample luster, particularly on the reverse, and is problem-free aside from light obverse hairlines and a pair of thin marks near obverse star 13.
