Lovely Fine Style Shekel
PHOENICIA. Tyre. Ca. 425-394 BC. AR shekel (19mm, 13.05 gm,
12h). NGC Choice XF 5/5 - 3/5, Fine Style. Uncertain king,
Phoenician standard. Bearded deity (Melqart?), riding winged
hippocamp right above waves, bow and arrow in left hand, reins in
right; dolphin swimming right below, all in guilloche border / Owl
standing right, head facing, flail and crook over shoulder;
guilloche border. HGC 10, 315. Splendidly detailed and centered
example. Only the second Fine Style shekel from this series that we
have offered.
