Description

1918/7-D Buffalo Nickel, AU53
Far Finer Than Most Certified Examples

1918/7-D 5C AU53 NGC. CAC. FS-101. The present population data show eight examples of the 1918/7-D in AU53 with 75 finer at NGC, while PCGS shows three submissions in AU53 with 89 finer. It strikes us that liars figure and figures lie, as those data appear rife with duplications. We would not be at all surprised to find that the true populations of different coins are half of those figures or less. Also note how the vast majority of certified specimens cluster in the Very Good through Very Fine grade range. This AU53 piece shows some faint luster remaining over charcoal-gray surfaces that are unimpaired and quite attractive overall. The overdate feature is bold, as expected.(Registry values: N4719)
