Catherine II gold Novodel 10 Roubles 1777-CПБ UNC Details (Cleaned) NGC, St. Petersburg mint, cf. KM-C79b (for regular issue), Bitkin-H35 (R3), Fr-129b. 16.59gm. A transitional date in the series, occurring on both the 2nd and 3rd bust types for Catherine the Great. The earlier bust type was never released for circulation bearing the 1777 date, but Novodel strikes are known. Commercial pieces of this type dated 1777 were created, as were Novodels, such as the coin on offer in this lot. There is an precipitous dearth of appearances of this particular date and type as a Novodel; in fact, the last appearance we are aware of was this same exact specimen, selling with UBS in 2002 (stating an earlier provenance from the Willy Fuchs Collection). The pinscratch originating at the bridge of Catherine's nose, extending to between the base of "CA" in the obverse legend is the diagnostic used to make the attribution; moderately distracting light marks and slightly dulled surfaces are the basis for the details notations assigned by NGC. Despite these minor problems, the rarity of this particular issue as a Novodel is significant and we anticipate the bidding for this fleeting example piece will reflect as such.

聖彼得堡造幣廠。16.59克。這枚金幣出自過渡時期，當時第二款及第三款葉卡捷琳娜大帝像均有使用。較早的一款肖像刻有1777年份，但未有投入流通。而像當前這枚般的Novodel後鑄幣亦有存世，並曾投入使用。此年份的後鑄幣向來有如鳳毛麟角。按敝公司所知，這款金幣對上一次於拍賣中出現為2002年，正正是當前這枚，由UBS售出（更早的源流為Willy Fuchs舊藏）。葉卡捷琳娜鼻樑上的刮痕一直延伸至正面銘文「CA」底部，導致評級公司留下批注。而整枚金幣都散落著若干輕淡痕跡，幣面稍顯暗淡，最終被NGC評為Details。雖然帶有些許小瑕疵，但這枚Novodel的珍罕程度仍不容忽視。敝公司預期，熾熱不斷的投標將會證明這枚珍品的無上身價。
