Attractive Early Liberty Head Example
1840 $10 AU58 NGC. This early Liberty Head ten dollar gold
piece represents the third year of issue in the series and the
second with the modified portrait (Head of 1840, remodeled by
Christian Gobrecht). Luster glows around the relief elements of
this borderline-Uncirculated representative. The central devices
exhibit complete definition with barely a trace of rub, while the
lower stars are a bit soft. Peppered ticks and hairlines prove
undistracting. Census: 22 in 58 (2 in 58+), 6 finer
