1870 3CS PR66 NGC. CAC. According to Mint records, 1,000 proof three cent silver pieces were struck in 1870, but some examples undoubtedly went unsold and were melted after the end of the year. This attractive Premium Gem displays a cameo-like effect. The fields are a glassy aquamarine, and the design features are sharply impressed. Census: 26 in 66, 8 finer (12/14).(Registry values: N1793)
