Splendid 1854 Three Dollar Gold, MS64
1854 $3 MS64 PCGS. This first-year Philadelphia three dollar gold issue was the denomination's high-water mark, the only one to have a six-figure mintage. The novelty of the three dollar gold piece also encouraged saving, and the 1854 is relatively available in grades through Select, though Choice examples are elusive and Gems are conditionally rare. This near-Gem is immensely lustrous with an interesting blend of yellow-gold and peach-gold on the minimally marked surfaces. Well struck and highly appealing. PCGS has certified just 25 finer representatives (8/08).(Registry values: N4719)Coin Index Numbers: (NGC ID# 25M3, PCGS# 7969, Greysheet# 8627)
