Description
1854-C Half Eagle, AU53
Bold Mintmark Variety
1854-C $5 AU53 NGC. Winter-1. Two die pairs are known for
the 1854-C half eagle, each utilizing the same obverse. Winter-1 is
the Bold Mintmark reverse, with the mintmark over the left half of
the V in FIVE; it is easily distinguished from Winter-2, which
shows the mintmark weakly punched and positioned over the E. This
AU53 coin displays uniform honey-gold patina with remnants of
luster in the fields. Expected strike softness visits the hair
curls around Liberty's brow as well as the eagle's neck and the
fletchings. Eye appeal is nonetheless strong. Census: 17 in 53, 44
finer (2/25).(Registry values: P4)From The Warrior Mountain Collection, Part II.
