Description
Isle of Bute. Rothsay Mills Counterstamped 4 Shillings 6 Pence ND (1820s) VF30 NGC, KM-CC100, Manville-92. Displaying "Rothsay Cotton Works 4/6 1820" counterstamp with beaded outer border and corded inner border (XF Standard), together with a reverse privy punch, on a Ferdinand VII 8 Reales 1820 Mo-JJ from Mexico (cf. KM111). Privy mark upon reverse at six o'clock, as normal upon all genuine examples of this issue. A scarce type almost never encountered so fine, with an especially bold countermark.From the Maurice Storck Collection
