Rare Noe-8.2
1652 SHILNG Pine Tree Shilling, Large Planchet, Ligatured NE,
VF35 PCGS. Noe-8.2, W-740, Salmon 7-E, R.6. Ex: House of Davis
McKinney. 70.36 gn. Noe-8 is known as the Monogram NE or Ligatured
NE variety, a reference to the merged NE letters in NEW. Noe-8.2 is
a rare late die state of Noe-8, first designated by Richard Picker
in his 1976 ANS article, and identified by the sizeable die break
below the GL in ENGLAND. This is a charming and unblemished example
with dove-gray fields and cream-white high points. The usual mint
clips leave most peripheral letters intact although the tops of HV
and the bottoms of OM are affected. Listed on page 39 of the 2016
