1915-S $2 1/2 Panama-Pacific Quarter Eagle MS66 PCGS. CAC. The obverse design features Columbia riding a hippocampus, symbolizing the link between the Atlantic and Pacific oceans. The caduceus in her hand is thought to represent the victory by Colonel William Gorgas and the Army Medical Corps over the yellow fever and malaria outbreaks that affected workers during the building of the Panama Canal. This lustrous, orange-gold Premium Gem commands strong visual appeal. The devices are boldly impressed, and marks are invisible to the unaided eye. PCGS has certified 35 pieces in finer numeric grades (7/14).(Registry values: N4719)
