Description

1862 Three Dollar, Sharp AU58
Rare CAC-Approved Example

1862 $3 AU58 PCGS. CAC. This is a remarkably sharp example, showing bold definition on the headdress and the wreath bowknot despite a touch of high-point friction that prevents Mint State classification. Original honey-gold patina retains luster in the fields, while scattered abrasions accompany the aforementioned wear. Only a dozen coins in this grade are CAC endorsed. However, few CAC-approved coins ever appear on the market. Our Auction Archives show only a dozen prior appearances of CAC coins regardless of grade. This near-Mint CAC coin is especially important. Population: 39 in 58 (2 in 58+), 49 finer. CAC: 13 in 58, 13 finer (10/25).(Registry values: N1793)

Coin Index Numbers: (NGC ID# 25MH, PCGS# 7983, Greysheet# 8635)
