Description

1864 Seated Dollar, PR61
OC-P4, Attractively Toned

1864 $1 PR61 NGC. OC-P4, R.5. An attractive proof Seated dollar bathed in light rose-red and caramel-gold toning that deepens moderately at the borders. The strike is intricate, and only delicate hairlines limit the grade. A Civil War date with a meager mintage of 470 pieces. Despite the low production, four die pairs are known. OC-P4 is rarer than OC-P1 and OC-P2. It is attributed by its date placement relative to the shield point, and by a vertical shield line (strip 1, line 3) that extends into the horizontal lines.(Registry values: N1793)
