Description

1795 Half Dollar, VF Sharpness
O-102a, T-26, Mid-to-Late Die State

1795 50C 2 Leaves, O-102a, T-26, R.6 -- Obverse Damage -- NGC Details. VF. Tompkins Die State 4/2. This advanced die state of O-102a shows faint obverse die cracks in the date region as well as a crack above AMERI on the reverse, all of which are seen on this example. Importantly, a very late die state exists -- with a retained cud from the left ribbon end to T in UNITED -- but that crack is not present on this coin. The latest die state is rare, while the intermediate stage is only slightly scarcer than early die state examples. The surfaces of this pleasing example are choice except for an old dig between I and B of LIBERTY, which NGC designates as Damage. This mark is hardly distracting, and the balance of the sharply defined surfaces display natural silver-gray toning with faint glints of gold and traces of luster.
