Description

1791 Washington Cent, MS65 Brown
Small Eagle, GW-17

1791 Washington Small Eagle Cent MS65 Brown PCGS. Baker-16, W-10630, GW-17, R.3. The well-made 1791 Washington cents come in two major varieties, the Large Eagle and Small Eagle. The Small Eagle variety is slightly scarcer. They were struck by the private Westwood Mint in Birmingham, England, in an attempt to obtain a coinage contract with the United States, as that country had yet to establish a mint of its own. The present Gem displays ample glimmers of mint red, though the coin is dominated by olive-brown toning. Listed on page 47 of the 2026 Guide Book. Population: 12 in 65 (5 in 65+) Brown, 4 finer (7/25).

Coin Index Numbers: (NGC ID# 2B73, PCGS# 705, Greysheet# 255)
