Description

1796, Draped Bust Dollar, VF30
Large Date, Small Letters, B-5, BB-65

1796 $1 Large Date, Small Letters, B-5, BB-65, R.2, VF30 PCGS. Bowers-Borckardt Die State II. The dramatic die lump at the top right of I in AMERICA identifies the popular BB-65 variety. The extra metal needed to fill the die lump on the reverse caused stars 2 and 3 to be lightly impressed on the obverse. This attractive VF30 specimen shows considerable wear on the left side of the drapery, but the design elements retain much interior detail in other areas. The lightly abraded slate-gray surfaces show no trace of planchet adjustment marks. Housed in a green label holder.
